LOGAN, Utah — Officials report Logan Canyon is back open after it temporarily closed to traffic following a car accident Saturday. It’s not immediately clear whether there are sustaining injuries.
Utah Highway Patrol Corporal Michael Gordon confirmed the single-vehicle incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Saturday after a Dodge pickup truck travelling west left its lane of travel, with the reason why still unclear. The truck was found flipped upside down in the Logan River.
Bystanders responded to the crash, attempting to get the two passengers out of the vehicle. The group was able to pull the driver out, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The passenger of the truck was able to get out with minor injuries. A life flight was initially called but canceled before it arrived.
UHP troopers are investigating whether the crash was related to driving under the influence.
The Utah Department of Transportation reported the closure was expected to last until 8:25 p.m.
