SALT LAKE CITY — Police canceled an AMBER Alert early Wednesday in the case of a missing 6-year-old boy in Salt Lake City, saying they found the child safe.

The alert was issued around midnight, from 1259 West Iola Avenue. That’s around 4th South in the Poplar Grove area of the city.

Salt Lake City police told KSL Julian Ulibarri, the boy’s father, fled with the 6-year-old after learning the Utah Division of Child and Family Services planned to remove the child from his custody.

Unified police found the vehicle involved in the initial AMBER Alert around 5:15 a.m. in South Salt Lake, about five hours after the initial alert. They took some people in for questioning near 530 East 3500 South. But the suspect was not one of them.

But around 6:30 a.m., word came they found the child, safe. Police did not immediately provide details about where he was located or whether the person with him was Ulibarri.
