SALT LAKE CITY — Garth Brooks is set to perform at Rice-Eccles Stadium this summer, marking the first major concert event in Utah for 2021.

Garth Brooks returning to Utah

The artist will perform Saturday, July 17, and tickets go on sale Thursday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

This will be the first solo-artist concert at Rice-Eccles Stadium in 10 years. Looking back, the last such performance was on May 24, 2011, when U2 performed in the stadium.

An all-inclusive ticket costs $94.95 and the purchaser assumes COVID-19 risk and all COVID-19 rules apply.

While Utah lifted its statewide mask mandate on April 10, the University of Utah and Rice-Eccles Stadium still currently require face coverings. University of Utah officials say that stadium staff will assist in the implementation and execution of safety protocols and work alongside an on-site medical team that will stand by in the case of an emergency.

Aaron White, director of Stadium & Arena Event Services at Rice-Eccles, says it’s still unknown what COVID-19 restrictions may be in place by July.

“As a sold out show, we’ll work closely with the county health department. We’ve got a history through the pandemic with them,” he explains. “There is a mask mandate in place right now. We’ll adjust our policies per what is happening with the numbers.”

Local leaders react

Already, many state leaders reacted positively to the news of the upcoming concert. Gov. Spencer Cox tweeted that he will be excited to potentially attend the event.

Rep. Andrew Stoddard, R-Sandy, also reacted to the news.
