Cox issues order for state facilities to water ‘wisely and sparingly’

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox issued an executive order on Monday that affects the times that the lawn can be watered at state facilities.

The order forbids irrigation at state facilities between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. It also requires that sprinklers are to be shut off during rainstorms and that automatic watering systems are operating efficiently.

“Last year, Utah experienced one of the driest and hottest years on record and we anticipate another tough drought year ahead,” Cox said in a statement. “State government is committed to doing its part to conserve water, and we encourage all Utahns to use this most precious resource wisely and sparingly.”

Cox’s executive order  asks local governments to be water conscious by implementing similar restrictions on their public landscaping.

And Cox asks all Utahns to reduce their water consumption by:
