EPHRAIM, Utah — Snow College is offering students a major assist by paying a big chunk of college tuition for the fall 2021 semester.

Unsuspecting students thought they were sharing their experience at the small college. Instead, they were told the school would pay up to 14 credit hours next semester.

Snow College offers to help pay tuition

Under the promotion, students would need to pay for the first six credit hours they enroll in — but the college will pay for the rest.

Snow College used $4 million of COVID-19 funding to pay for the promotion.

This comes roughly a year after several colleges faced rising pressure from prospective students to cut tuition costs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As classes moved online, students urged colleges to cut costs. Thousands of U.S. adults lost their jobs, then sought assistance in paying tuition or college loans.

In Utah, almost every college — with the exception of Southern Utah University — announced its tuition would increase for the 2021-22 academic year.

President Joe Biden ran on campaign promises to significantly cancel student loan debt, but hasn’t found a middle ground with Congress to bring it into fruition. Sen. Elizabeth Warren recently urged the president Thursday to forgive debt, calling it “something the president can do.”
