SALT LAKE CITY– The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is increasing daily fishing limits at ten fisheries in Utah over concerns of low water levels this summer.
Public Information Officer Faith Heaton Jolley says warmer temperatures and low oxygen levels could lead to fish deaths in some areas.
“We’re increasing those daily fishing limits to let people keep more of these fish in these areas and decrease any potential fish dying and being wasted this summer,” Jolley told KSL Newsradio.
The fisheries include Yuba Lake in central Utah, where the limit will increase to 20 fish from a variety of species. At Gunlock Reservoir in Washington County, the limit had been six largemouth bass.
“The daily limit we’re increasing to twelve largemouth bass with no size restrictions, and then we’re completely removing the limit on bluegill and black crappie,” she said.
Most of the other fisheries on the list are low-elevation reservoirs in southern Utah, though the lower end of the Blacksmith Fork River in Cache County will also be affected. Regulations on other streams and lakes in Utah will remain the same. Detailed information about the new limits is available on the DWR website.
