SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) troopers are already stopping a lot of cars from getting out of town. And they have extra shifts this weekend to try to remind people to drive more safely.

Major Jeff Nigbur says a video from the Utah department of public safety shows their hope that families can be safe this weekend as troopers and officers work to keep them safe.

The UHP is concerned about an increase already this year in deadly crashes. And we haven’t even begun what’s known as the 100 deadliest days between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

They are giving people a hint of where troopers will be focusing this weekend.

Two places of extra scrutiny I-15 through Juab and Millard counties, and in Box Elder County at the Perry port where there will be truck inspections and a DUI blitz.

Troopers are already pulling a bunch of cars over on I-15 through Juab and Millard counties as people head south from the Wasatch Front.

Troopers are doing different blitzes and focusing on specific areas of the state this weekend as they enforce Utah’s laws. Major Jeff Nigbur says there have been 99 deadly crashes so far this year, compared to 80 at this time last year.

He says the motor squad has already pulled a lot of cars over on I-15 through Juab and Millard counties. They are looking for speeding, impaired, drowsy, or distracted drivers and Nigbur says please buckle up.

There was also a DUI blitz Friday and Saturday night night.

So far they have made 64 level, 3 inspections, 4 OOS and violations 34 others.
