SALT LAKE CITY — Mayor Erin Mendenhall opened three new launch ramps for non-motorized boats along the Jordan River in Salt Lake City on Friday. They’re located at the Fisher Mansion on 200 South, at the Gadsby trailhead near the Utah State Fairpark, and 1800 North Redwood Road.
Mayor Mendenhall told a news conference the new ramps will make accessing the river for recreation much easier.
“Getting into the river is going to be easier than ever. Cement, not mud. People can walk. Kids can access it, with their parents, hopefully safely, wearing life jackets,” she said.
Mendenhall used the occasion to urge public participation in planning efforts for natural and open space in the city, asking them to go to the Reimagine Nature website and provide their feedback.
Soren Simonsen, executive director of the Jordan River Commission, also said there will be more launch ramps soon along stretches of the river outside Salt Lake City.
“Salt Lake County, in addition to these three boat launches that we’re celebrating today, is working to develop another dozen all up and down the river corridor.
The Jordan River flows from Utah Lake on the south to the Great Salt Lake on its northern end. Work has been underway for years to develop the Jordan River Parkway hiking trail along its length.
