WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — West Valley City police said that shots were fired from a vehicle toward a Chevron gas station at 7198 West 3500 South on Saturday.

Sgt. Christopher Walsh said police received a call stating that someone driving a tan four-door sedan had fired between five and six shots toward the station.

When officers arrived, Walsh said they found evidence of the shooting in the form of bullet holes in neighborhood fences.

“One of the rounds caused debris to hit a ten-year-old female on the foot,” Walsh told KSL. The injury was a minor one and no medical assistance was needed Walsh said.

An investigation continued on Saturday afternoon. Walsh said officers were looking for surveillance video from nearby businesses.

“We don’t have any indication that there’s a risk to the public,” he said. “It seems that this was just a random act of violence.”

Police are looking for more information about the tan four-door sedan reported by witnesses.
