PROVO, Utah —  The Utah Valley Marathon, coming Saturday, will create major traffic delays in Provo Canyon and along University Avenue over the weekend.

Organizers expect the marathon to be the area’s biggest public event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The marathon goes through Provo Canyon, past Bridal Veil Falls. Runners will also traverse a small part of Orem near the mouth of the canyon and downtown Provo.

Organizers ask people traveling near Provo Canyon this weekend to use alternative routes if possible because of major traffic delays.

If you choose to cheer for your runners, there are spots along University Avenue in Provo and a few locations in the canyon with parking. In Provo Canyon itself, marathon officials say you need to be cautious of the runners and any road traffic.

Vehicles will be limited to one Provo-bound lane. As a result, pedestrians may find it difficult to cross the road in the canyon. For spectators, marathon officials recommend staging yourself at Mount Timpanogos Park, Canyon Glen Park, Nunn’s Park or Deer Creek State Park.

Runners are advised to ride the provided bus to the starting line because there is no official parking available. Utah Department of Transportation will have live updates to assist you on your drive.
