SALT LAKE CITY —  Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping at a car wash on 2100 South in Salt Lake City on Sunday evening.

Lt. Steve Wooldridge said a man tried to force his ex-girlfriend into his car around 8 pm. The woman managed to get away,  jumped into a friend’s pickup truck and they sped off.

Wooldridge said the man chased after them and began firing gunshots at the truck.  “The pickup truck made contact with another motorist and they both crashed.”

The truck then crashed into a power pole, shearing it off and falling over Redwood Road near 1700 South.

Electricity was out for dozens of people for several hours last night and Redwood Road was closed between 1700 and 2100 South while crews repaired the power pole.

Wooldridge said the suspect fled the scene and is still at large.  He said they know who the man is and are looking for him.

Names of those involved have not been released.
