SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department released Thursday bodycam footage of a deadly officer-involved shooting last month at Pioneer Park.
One person is deceased from this incident that led to a police shooting at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department were the first responders on the scene around 8:40 a.m. after receiving a call about a stabbing victim. Once they got to the scene, the fire chief said construction workers were already helping the woman stabbed.
The bodycam footage shows police officers showing up to the park with construction workers showing them a woman who had been stabbed.
The woman is then able to point out her attacker from the video shown.
The footage continues to show officers approaching the man who was seen still holding a knife in his hand. The man then ran toward one of the officers before being shot.
Both the shooting and the stabbing are still being investigated by the Critical Incident Team.
Additionally, The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office will determine if the shooting was justified. However, Salt Lake County Mayor Erin Mendenhall has previously said that she believes the officers made the only decision they could.
