SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Food Bank said it has distributed 6,000,000 pounds of food every month, for the last fifteen months.
Ginette Bott, the president and CEO, tells KSL Newsradio’s Amanda Dickson, she hopes never to see the food demand at this magnitude again.
While Utah’s unemployment rate is almost back to pre-pandemic levels, Bott said people are having to pay off debts, rent and utility bills. “The hot temperatures have driven those bills so high and so incredibly out of budget, food is first thing to go off the list.”
Bott said she is grateful for all the community support received during the pandemic, but the need for donations continues. “We are still distributing three times the amount of food each month than we did before the pandemic.”
