DOLORES, Colo. — The Navajo Police Department canceled the Amber Alert for missing children Bailey and Braidin Begay after they were found.
“At approximately 2 a.m., missing children Bailey and Braidin Begay were successfully located,” the Navajo Police Department reported. “The children were found in a remote area south of Dolores, Colo. The children were found unharmed.”
“The success of the search and rescue was contributed by the collective efforts of Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, the Navajo Police Department, San Juan County Sheriff’s New Mexico, Navajo Department of Emergency Management, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Utah, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the regional counties of Colorado.”
After the Amber Alert was canceled, Navajo Police Chief Philip Francisco added, “We want to thank our county, state, local, and federal law enforcement partners in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, as well as our own Navajo Division of Public Safety partners, for working together and collectively pulling together resources that lead to the successful outcome of this incident.”
“I want to also express my appreciation to Montezuma County Sheriff Steven Nowlin and his deputies for their partnership and determination in finding Baily and Braidin. We are grateful the children were found safe and have been united with their family.”
The children were last seen Thursday leaving their residence with the suspect, Brandon Begay, who is the father of the children. He was arrested without incident. The children were united with their mother and family in Cortez, Colo.
