Gov. Cox rails against vaccine misinformation

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox addressed the recent rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations at his monthly briefing Thursday morning. Not only did Governor Cox voice his concern about the surge, but he also did not mince words about the spread of vaccine misinformation.
Where Cox believes misinformation is coming from
In Cox’s opinion, politicians and cable news hosts discouraging people from getting the shot is not helping anyone.
“That kind of stuff is just ridiculous, it’s dangerous, it’s damaging, and it’s killing people,” Cox said about vaccine misinformation. “It’s literally killing their supporters and that makes no sense to me.”
His comments closely follow a recent statement from Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, where he called the politicization of vaccines “moronic.”

Why the recent rise?
Gov. Cox believes the increases are led by Utahns who have not had the shot.
“We know why the cases are going up, we know why hospitalizations are going up, and it’s just because we need more people to get vaccinated,” explained Cox.
The governor says people on the fence about getting the vaccine should jump. To the skeptical, he says the disease is far worse than the vaccine.
