PARK CITY, Utah — Fire officials said conditions on the Parleys Canyon brush fire stayed calm overnight, and they now estimate the fire at 1,500 acres, or roughly half as big as originally thought.
In a Facebook post, Utah Fire Information reported 120 personnel remain on scene working to contain the fire, which forced evacuations Saturday afternoon as the flames grew.
Crews planned to keep Jordanelle State Park closed to the public Sunday; firefighters need to access the reservoir to fight the fire.
Yesterday, investigators pinpointed the cause of the fire as a faulty catalytic converter.
As of Sunday morning, the fire was 0% contained, but no structures had been lost to the flames.
Summit County officials thanked the public for their willingness to support firefighters on scene, but asked that people refrain from donating items directly. On Facebook, county leaders said:
Some folks have been asking about donations for the brave first responders. Due to current COVID numbers we are unable to accept food donations for the firefighters. If able and willing, monetary donations to Red Cross or to one of our local nonprofit organizations would be appreciated.
Evacuation orders remain in place according to Sherriff Justin. On a statement Sunday, the Summit County Sheriff Facebook page said they are still concerned with the east line of the fire, where containment is still at 0%.
