SALT LAKE CITY — Try not to breathe the air for a couple more days as air quality is unhealthy. More smoke from California’s Dixie fire poured into Utah overnight.

Meteorologists said the smoke is expected to get even worse through today and into tomorrow before we get some relief.

Most of Northern Utah is showing air quality which is unhealthy for everyone.  Neighborhood sensors from Goshen to Logan and from Tooele to Heber City is showing fine air particulates hovering around the 160 mark.

The Air Quality Index states members of the general public could experience health effects when the particulate matter is between 151 and 200.  And those with underlying health conditions could see more serious health effects.

At one point on Monday, Salt Lake City ranked as having the 2nd worst air quality in the world –only behind Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Doctors advise people stay indoors if at all possible and try not to breathe the air. They also suggest to try to avoid physical exertion while outside.

A storm is expected to move into Utah on Tuesday evening and should clear a lot of the smoke out of our atmosphere.

It will also bring much needed rain and temperatures will drop about 20-degrees.
