PROVO, UTAH — A man died Tuesday night after an officer-involved shooting in Provo.

Provo Police say officers were trying to stop a car just before 10 pm when the driver sped off. They did not chase the vehicle.

Officers found him near 300 North and 900 West and tried to make contact with him. That’s when they say he shot at the officers and they returned fire.

“As soon shots were fired officers attempted to render aid to the driver of that vehicle. He was shortly transported to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and approximately an hour later they pronounced him deceased,” said Sgt Nick Dupaix.

Sgt. Dupaix says it is all under investigation right now.

“We have a county-wide task force called the officer-involved critical incident team. It comprises of many local law enforcement agencies that conduct these investigations,” he said.

Police did say that the man the only person in the vehicle, and that he was 48 years old.
