Two counselors named to serve with Tabernacle Choir President Michael Leavitt

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Thursday evening the two counselors who will serve with Michael Leavitt in the presidency of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

At a Choir devotional Thursday evening, L. Whitney Clayton was sustained as first counselor and Gary B. Porter as second counselor.

Clayton is an Emeritus General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a General Authority Seventy from 2001 to 2020.  During that time, he was a member of the Presidency of the Seventy and Senior President of the Quorums of Seventy.

Porter is a Senior Vice President at Deseret Management Corporation. His responsibilities include human resources, community relations, executive director of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundation, and the President and CEO of Temple Square Hospitality Corporation.

The Church announced Leavitt as the President of the Tabernacle Choir on Aug. 6. He replaces Ron Jarrett, who had served as president since 2012.
