WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — West Valley Police said a man was cooking dinner last night when he heard a knock at the door, and when he answered, was shot.

According to Lt. Bill Merritt, when the man opened the door, two men dressed in black from head to toe were standing there. One of them then pulled out a gun and shot the victim twice.

Merritt said they received a number of calls of shots fired about 9:15 pm.  When officers arrived at the Enclave Apartments at 3810 S Redwood Road they said witnesses told them they heard an argument inside the victim’s apartment after the shots were fired.

“The suspects then fled in a tan sedan,” said Merritt.

West Valley Police are still looking for the two suspects but Merritt said this was not a random shooting so there is no danger to the public.  Merritt believes the two parties know each other, they just know how yet.

Merritt said there was a witness in the apartment at the time of the shooting, and that individual is being interviewed.  He also said officers will be interviewing the victim as well.

“We’re working through the different details we have, taking this one step at a time, and hopefully will be able to identify our suspects soon,”  Merritt said.

Merritt said the victim was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
