Oak Grove fire contained and controlled, campsites still closed

DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST, Ut — The Oak Grove Fire is now 50% contained and 50% controlled. Firefighters have been battling the fire since August 29, 2021. Nearly 700 acres have burned. 

The Oak Grove Fire was human caused

According to a press release, the fire was human caused and an unattended campfire is to blame. 

The Central Utah Type 3 fire team has turned all operations over to the Dixie National Forest. In the statement authorities said the fire has not spread in several days.  Crews and engines will be released, however, they do warn that smoke will still be visible. Dixie National Forest will continue to patrol the fire and adapt operations as necessary. 

Forest officials are reminding people to make sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area. 

Expect closures at campgrounds and trails

Before heading out to enjoy your public lands, please check for current closures and fire restrictions.

Closures for the Oak Grove Campground remain in effect and include trails that lead into the area.
