SALT LAKE CITY — On Sunday, hikers found the body of a man that allegedly had fallen about 200 feet on a Wasatch-Uintah ridgeline trail.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team worked to recover the body that had fallen believed to be near the WURL trail.
According to officials late Sunday evening, the victim has been identified as Andrew Acuff, 26, of Salt Lake City.
The rescue team had to use a helicopter to retrieve the body, the terrain was very steep to get to for rescuers and made the approach by foot very dangerous.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler says the terrain in the area is rough, and only skilled hikers should use that trail.
“This trail is becoming increasingly popular and the reality is it’s an incredibly dangerous trail which requires a very skilled hiker, so knowing in advance that this is not your average trail – and when we talk about highly skilled, we’re not talking about good physical condition, we’re talking about having really high technical skills,” warns Cutler.
According to the police, Acuff had planned to go hiking and meet with some friends.
