BEAVER — After a closure of I-15 on Monday night near Beaver due to an active gunman fleeing from police, officers say that suspect is in custody.

According to the UHP, the incident began when Troopers tried to stop a vehicle. However, the vehicle fled away. After a car pursuit, the driver escaped on foot. The individual then fired shots at the pursuing officers. However, no injuries have been reported.

Just before 10:30 pm Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel told KSL TV’s Alex Cabrero that officers had found the man and pinned him down. He said the suspect may have also taken shots at a police helicopter.

Noel said that more than 100 officers from six jurisdictions were called in to respond.

Just after midnight, UHP Maj. Jeff Nigbur said the man was taken into custody and that the road closures affecting I-15 and others would be opened shortly thereafter.
