Aggravated assault near East High School under investigation

Salt Lake City, UT — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred Friday near the East High School football stadium.

According to police, a 17-year-old East High School witnessed two people arguing. The fight was labeled as a domestic disturbance between a female and an 18-year-old male.

The witness decided to physically intervene in the initial fight, which resulted in him also getting on a fight with the 18-year-old male. That’s when the 18-year-old male pulled out a firearm and stroke him over the head, no shots were fired.

The 17-year-old witness declined medical assistance, the suspect left the area before officers arrived.

The SLCPD School Resource Officers have identified the 18-year-old suspect and are conducting investigative follow-up to locate him. No arrests have been made.

Additional officers were available for student safety at the homecoming dance on Saturday.
