EPHRAIM, Utah — Snow College confirmed on Monday morning that Offensive Lineman, Mafatini Taimane-Laititi Mafatini passed away in a single-vehicle accident in Ephriam on Sunday.

“Last night, Mafatini Mafatini passed away from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident in Ephraim, Utah,” the school said.

“Mafatini, a Snow College freshman, joined the Badgers this season as an offensive lineman.  Prior to moving to Ephraim, Mafatini played football in Maui, Hawaii.

Head coach Zac Erekson said, “We are extremely saddened by the news of Mafitini’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family back in Maui. Mafitini was such a bright light in this world. His smile and infectious laugh will be missed not only by our team but by all those who knew him. Again, we give our love and prayers for his family and for all those that were involved in this terrible accident.”

Defensive coordinator Jan Jorgensen added his condolences on Twitter early Monday morning saying, “It’s nights like tonight when you realize football means very little and at the same time, it means everything.

“The bond and brotherhood felt by these young men will carry them through some of the worst moments of their lives. This team will forever have a place in my heart.”

Snow College student leaders are planning to gather in memory of Mafatini tonight at 8:00 on the Robert Stoddard Football Field, and some items have been placed at the entrance on the Terry Foote Stadium in his honor.
