SALT LAKE CITY — Northern Utah is plunging into late fall feels with rain and cooler temperatures moving in.

In fact, we could see snow in the higher elevations this week.

Utah fall starts with falling rain

The rain started falling in Southern Utah on Tuesday. They had up to a half an inch reported in some places like Bryce Canyon, Zion and Cedar City, and some flooded roads.

Scattered showers are in the forecast for the Wasatch Front on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. KSL Meteorologist Grant Weyman says the rain on Friday could be heavy at times, followed by more showers on Saturday.

The forecast means people can turn off their lawn sprinklers. And they’ll want to find jackets, sweaters and ponchos for weekend football games. The temperatures may fall by 20 degrees below normal on Saturday as well.

Snow could also fall above 8,000 feet.

The National Weather Service is also watching the potential for an unsettled weather pattern next week. They say that could mean the coldest temperatures we’ve seen this season so far.
