SALT LAKE CITY — Utah has seen its highest October snowfall in almost 15 years

“We had a very snowy October, which is very exciting for us,” Alison Palmintere, Director of Communications at Ski Utah, told KSL NewsRadio on Tuesday.

“Alta had 67 (inches), Solitude has 63, and we are very excited to see the resorts open.”

She went on to say that this is one of the snowiest Octobers on record. The last October with this much snow was in 2004, and 2021’s October snowfall is likely a contender for top snowfalls in the last 100 years.

On average, a Utah November typically sees up to 60 inches of snowfall.

What is the cause of all this great weather? All the precipitation! In October, Salt Lake City had its 7th rainiest October ever, with 3.49 inches of precipitation in the valley.

While October was historic for rain and snow, Palmintere says she hopes to see the weather keep coming all throughout the winter.

And skiers don’t have to wait much longer in order to hit the slopes.

Park City Mountain, Woodward Park City, Solitude, and Brighton are all scheduled to open on November 19th.
