WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — West Valley Police are still looking for a person who stole a car, abandoned it, then fled in another car.

Car located, suspect fled

West Valley PD received a call from someone whose car had been stolen yesterday. He had followed his white BMW X5 to someone’s home near 3500 S. and 4400 W.

At that address, the driver of the stolen BMW left the car and got into a black Dodge Challenger, this time as a passenger, reported WVCPD Lt. Robert Brinton.

Car chase began, then abandoned

After entering the Dodge, Brinton reported police started following the car. A chase started. After driving on Bangerter Highway, the 201 and Mountain View Corridor southbound, the police ended the chase due to dangerously high driving speeds.

Car stolen again

Meanwhile, the person whose BMW was stolen in the first place called WVCPD again reported Brinton. He explained to police someone else had entered his BMW at the home where it was left and drove away. The driver of the BMW had started driving northbound on the 215. Brinton reported that police were able to pull over the second BMW thief.

The suspect is now in custody.

Police are still looking for the driver and passenger of the Dodge Challenger who fled during the chase.

This article will be updated with more details as they develop.
