American Fork, UT — A local restaurant’s balloon landed in an American Fork neighborhood. While it surprised the people living there, they received free chicken sandwichesAmerican Fork police were called to a scene involving a hot air balloon near Washington Avenue and 300 West.

Initially, police and fire officials believed the driver of the balloon may have been in distress.  A police spokesman said they thought the aircraft was trying to make an emergency landing.  American Fork Police Lieutenant Josh Christensen said that was not the case.

“It was actually a balloon owned by a local business. They were landing in neighborhoods as a marketing deal and they were handing out their products into the neighborhood,” said Christensen.

Christensen said the local restaurant’s balloon was all a part of a marketing promotion for a Chick-fil-A restaurant.  People living in the neighborhood were given chicken sandwiches as part of the promotion.  Lieutenant Christensen adds they even offered sandwiches to the officers working the scene.

American Fork police and fire had not been notified in advance of the promotion.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
