MIDVALE, Utah — Unified Police got a little more than they were expecting when they responded to a domestic violence call on Saturday afternoon. Authorities say that a incendiary device was discovered during a fight between a man and a woman.

The police affidavit stated that a woman called police to report that her ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her apartment.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered 27-year-old Simeona Mataafa standing over the woman. Police also noticed that her door had been broken in.

As authorities instructed  Mataafa to go outside, they discovered an object wrapped in duct tape inside a hat. The bomb squad later classified the item as a incendiary device. The victim had reported to police that she feared Mataafa was going to kill her. She also told authorities that he told her he was going to bring a bomb.

Mataafa has been booked into jail under investigation for burglary, stalking, and domestic violence.
