BRIGHTON, Utah — A 61-year-old skier injured after crashing into a snowbank at Brighton has since died from his injuries.

Police say the man had been skiing with his son and his goggles became obscured by snow from a snowmaking machine. He suffered severe head and facial trauma.

His family told KSL NewsRadio in an e-mail that first responders worked for more than half an hour to stabilize him before a helicopter could lift him off the mountain. However, he died after reaching the hospital.

The family says he was fit and healthy and had participated in weight lifting competitions recently. They say there was no medical incident that affected the skier prior to the crash at Brighton.

The family says the accident happened on a groomed run at Brighton, not in the trees or in an out-of-bounds area. His name has not been released.
