Window Rock, AZ — Navajo Nation Heritage Day recognizes the contributions of Navajo people.  A Proclamation was issued Thursday by the President and Vice President of the Navajo Nation.

President of the Navajo Nation, Jonathan Nez spoke at an event highlighting the Proclamation. Navajo Nation Heritage Day takes place on November 26, 2021. He explained why the day was so important.

“Navajo Nation Heritage Day will instill pride in our young people and encourage them to be part of the change to reteach the history of our country through the perspective of our Navajo people and to carry on the teachings of our elders.”

The Proclamation recognizes the contributions, strength and resilience of the Navajo People.   It is also to honor and celebrate the culture, language and teachings of the Navajo people.

President Nez adds, “Navajo people have fought to survive colonialization, assimilation, disease and genocide. Together, through the strength and prayers of our ancestors we continue to persevere and overcome adversities to build a brighter and prosperous future for our children and future generations. Powerful, right. That’s who we are.”
