SALT LAKE CITY — Another winter storm is making its way into Utah, and it will bring rain and snow along the Wasatch Front Tuesday night.

With an unexpected high of 51 degrees in mid-December, we’re expecting rain to start in the afternoon.

It will likely be windy most of the day with gusts of 20 to 30 m.p.h. through the morning. The wind could then intensify to 25 to 35 m.p.h in the afternoon, eventually reaching gusts of 45 in some areas of the valley.

The snow will probably start late Tuesday evening, possibly after midnight. But, this storm could bring 1 to 3 inches of snow to the valley floors and even more in the benches.

The snow mellows out midday Wednesday and makes a return in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Mountain areas, like Big and Little Cottonwood canyons, could see close to 2 feet of snow by the end of the week. That snow could bring base totals at the ski resorts to more favorable levels.
