WEST JORDAN, Utah — A 44-year-man is in custody after police say he allegedly shot his son late Christmas Eve night.
According to the probable cause statement, authorities were called to the residence at about 10 p.m. The family was having a Christmas party when the man became intoxicated, and he became verbally upset with family members.
The probable cause statement goes on to say that son came back into the house after the father had insulted his grandmother. The father then hit the woman in the neck, he also struck the son in the face.
The son then hit the father back and pinned him to him to the ground until he calmed down, according to the probable cause statement.
As soon as the son let his father free, the 44-year-old man went into another room and came back with a gun. The man fired the weapon at his son, striking him in the shoulder. The son then attacked the man in an effort to get the gun away from him. During the struggle, several rounds were discharged from the weapon, hitting a window in house.
The man was arrested on scene and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail under investigation for two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, intoxication and felony discharge of a weapon.
The victim was transferred to an area hospital for treatment of his wound from the Christmas Eve shooting. He is expected to make a full recovery.
