SALT LAKE CITY — Police say an RV driving away from a gas pump in Salt Lake City led to an explosion at a gas station, quickly put out by fire crews.

The explosion at a Chevron gas station on Redwood Road at North Temple shut down all southbound and westbound lanes of travel briefly Monday morning. Utah Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed video of the flames.

Gas pump explosion tied to RV fill-up

The call came in about 8:50 a.m. after police say the RV pulled away from a gas pump with the hose still attached.  The gas pump itself landed nearly 20 yards away after the explosion.

Fire crews were on the scene within 7 minutes and quickly put out the flames.  The lanes on both Redwood Road and North Temple reopened at 9:25 a.m.

Police said no one suffered any injuries. They said the driver of the RV was cooperating with their investigation.
