SALT LAKE CITY — If you have the flexibility to be able to leave work early Thursday afternoon, or if you can take FrontRunner or Trax, you might want to do that. The next “perfect” Utah snowstorm will arrive just in time for the heaviest part of the commute.
KSL meteorologist Grant Weyman forecasts the heaviest snow will start falling around 5 p.m., Thursday. After the evening commute, the snowstorm will continue to dump snow across northern Utah through around 4 a.m. Friday, Weyman said, echoing a previous forecast of the National Weather Service.
The worst trouble spots will involve locations at higher elevation. Some high elevation passes between Salt Lake and St. George already had snow Thursday morning.
The commute home at the end of the workday on Thursday will be sticky. Weyman predicts the snowstorm will start off with a punch.
But, the weather forecast will also affect other travel. Weyman advised Ute fans who are planning to make the drive to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl to leave as early as possible.
Weyman said northern Utah will probably get three to six inches of snow by Friday morning in the valleys. Ski resorts may see as much as two feet.
