SALT LAKE CITY  — Parents and families of Granite School District students got a notice on Thursday of three student non-attendance days for the current school and calendar year.

Labor shortage and pandemic to blame

The school district says the nationwide labor shortage has made it difficult to fully staff enough substitute teachers to cover for illnesses. The district has reported District office staff are volunteering as substitutes, and they’re having to suspend training and initiatives that aren’t state required.

Teachers will have these days to plan lessons and recover from the strain of the worker shortage. Students won’t have classes. Those three non-attendance days all fall on Fridays: January 28, March 11, and May 6.

Lunch and breakfast provided

Lunch and breakfast will be sent home with students on the Thursdays previous to the Friday non-attendance days.

Parents and students can check the Granite School District website for more updates.
