UPDATE: Wrong way car crash on Bangerter Highway results in death of 19-year-old

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A car heading northbound on Bangerter Highway swerved into the southbound lanes and collided with a truck. The driver of the passenger car, Riley Larsen, died on impact of the crash. He was 19 years old.

A crash Friday morning resulted in one death. West Valley City police reported on the accident.

A passenger car was driving northbound on Bangerter Highway in West Valley City. The driver crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a box truck.


The truck driver was not hurt by the collision. However, the driver of the passenger car died immediately from the crash. Both drivers were the only individuals in their vehicles.


In the afternoon, West Valley City police identified Riley Larsen, age 19 from Herriman, as the individual who died in the crash. 

Investigators are uncertain of the cause of the crash. 

Bangerter Highway road closure after fatal crash

Officials closed down Bangerter Highway at 2400 South to investigate the crash. They diverted traffic from the area Friday morning. 


Traffic was redirected eastbound and westbound into Frontage Road. By 8:30 a.m. the road was still closed at the scene of the crash. The closure was expected to remain for several hours.
