SALT LAKE CITY — A black cat named Bosko had an adventure Saturday after he was stolen from a PetSmart store in downtown Salt Lake City.

The man suspected of taking him turned up later in the day at another PetSmart store in Murray, where the cat was recovered.

Bosko is a rescue animal made available for adoption by the Community Animal Welfare Society. Dede Minardi with CAWS says the elderly man didn’t appear unusual.

“He talked to a couple of people about adoption and then went to the cages and then opened the one cage.” Minardi told KSL Newsradio. “It was locked, but he was just able to pull it open enough to get the cat out.”

Minardi says he came in the Murray store about eight hours later with the cat in his arms and spoke to the CAWS staff, who didn’t let him leave until Murray police showed up.

“He told me that he had just borrowed the cat because he thought the cat needed medical attention, and he had every intention of bringing the cat back,” she said.

Minardi says Bosko is fine and he doesn’t need medical attention. CAWS decided not to press charges in the case.
