Officers okay after wild Saturday night chase
(Salt Lake City, UT) — Officers involved in a chase that began in Millcreek and ended in Salt Lake City are not hurt after a suspect they were chasing smashed into three police cruisers. Two of those cruisers belonging to Unified Police suffered some damage. According to Unified Detective Arlen Bennett, a third vehicle, a Salt Lake police cruiser, appeared to be totaled.
“There are two UPD cars he hit, not too much damage, but the Salt Lake City car he hit was damaged pretty well,” according to Detective Bennett.
This all began, says Bennett, at a traffic stop at 300 East 3900 South in Millcreek about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Bennett says that for some reason a woman behind the wheel was told by a male passenger to drive off but she refused.
“The male passenger wanted to flee, so he pushed the female aside and took off in the car,” says Det. Bennett.
He was finally boxed in after hitting the police cars, around 133 Mead Ave. in Salt Lake City.
Bennett says he was taken into custody and no one was hurt.
