SALT LAKE CITY — A daylight saving bill from Utah Sen. Dan McCay would keep Utah in Mountain Daylight Time year-round.
“This is not that odd. There are other states, there are other parts of the world who don’t get wrapped up in this Daylight Savings thing,” McCay said on KSL Newsradio’s new program, KSL at Night.
“This is just one of those times, where we just kind of need to step up and say this is what we’re gonna do.”
The proposal may sound similar to a bill passed two years ago.
That bill would also put an end to the twice-yearly clock change, but only after four other surrounding states make the same decision. That’s still awaiting action from the U.S. Congress.
“The problem is, Congress does two things well; one, express outrage and two, nothing,” McCay said. “And so we’re sitting around waiting for Congress to make a decision before we can actually rip the band-aid off on this thing.”
The bill does not have a sponsor in the Utah House.
It is set to be considered Tuesday in the Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee, according to McCay.
