MOHAVE COUNTY, Arizona — Authorities in Arizona announced Friday the identity of the suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday along the Utah-Arizona border as 30-year-old Oscar Alcantara.

On Thursday, authorities in Washington City were searching for a suspect involved in alleged disorderly conduct incident from last weekend where a firearm was brandished. The suspect was seen at a residence getting into a small SUV as a passenger.

When authorities made a traffic stop on the vehicle, a female driver exited the SUV and began to run. While the female was explaining to authorities that her infant son was in the car, Alcantara, who had a gun, got in the driver seat and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Police from Washington City and St. George pursued the car through St. George, Santa Clara, Ivins and onto Old Highway 91 into Mohave County, Arizona.

When the vehicle came to a stop near Beaver Dam, Arizona near the Utah-Arizona border, Alcantara exited the car with the infant and the gun. According to a police press release, Alcantara was seen pointing the weapon at the child.

It was at that point, police say, a member of the St. George Police Department Tactical Team shot and killed Alcantara. The child was unharmed and was transported to a St. George hospital for treatment.

The investigation is still ongoing.
