LIVINGSTON, Mont. — An overdue hiker was found dead Friday morning after an apparent attack by a grizzly bear.

The man was discovered in the Six Mile Creek area, according to officials. The area is in southwest Montana, and a little more than 20 miles north of Yellowstone National Park.

Park County Sheriff Brad Bichler said in a Facebook posting that a search and rescue operation for the man began on Thursday.

“Please keep his family and all those involved in your thoughts and prayers,” Bichler said in a Facebook posting Friday.

Search and rescue operations consisted of ground teams, a team on horses and a helicopter. Thermal imaging was also used Thursday night.
