Currently, we use the system Marketron to send text messages to listeners, we’ve promised them breaking news the second it happens so we prioritize text messages in breaking news situations.

Texting hierarchy

The news producers (EPs, APs) are the commanders-in-chief when it comes to text messages. It is up to the morning EP, AP or afternoon EP, AP to make the decision to text, and either do it or delegate

The Program Director (Kevin LaRue), Assistant Program Director (Kristen Sorensen), News Director (Beky Bruce), or Assistant News Director (Kira Hoffelmeyer) may also decide, do or delegate.

Step 1

Sign in to messaging.marketron.com using your username and password.

Step 2

Click on “Broadcasts”.

Step 3

Choose your audience from the dropdown menu. Most of the time, this will be KSL Newsradio Alerts List-news. Then click “Add.”

Step 4

Fill in the box. Always begin with KSL NEWSRADIO: in all caps to begin.

We also legally have to end the text with “Text STOP to opt-out.”

This doesn’t leave too much room for extra information, so be succinct in your language. If there is room to include a link, a link shortening service like bit.ly can be used to provide more information if there’s an article available. If not, try and tease on-air coverage.

Double-check your spelling and grammar. You don’t want to be sending a text to tens of thousands of people with a typo. They will let you know about it.

Once you’ve finished typing, you then click “Review Message.”

Note: This screen also provides you with space to schedule a message for the future by clicking on the calendar button in the upper-right.

Step 5

Triple-check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. If all looks good, send it.

Scheduling option

You can also schedule a text, by using the calendar option when you’re writing it.

We want to hear from you.
