WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — An armed standoff Wednesday ended peacefully, police say.

West Valley City police say they were called to a home on the 4400 block of Deermeadow Drive at 9:37 a.m.

Police say an adult male, who was living with his parents, would not allow the parents to leave the house. However, once authorities arrived on scene, the parents were able to exit the house.

The parents told authorities that the suspect was armed.

Police spent more than six hours negotiating with the 33-year-old suspect. The suspect gave himself up to police without incident. He was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

Police say that if the suspect is cleared, he could be booked into jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping.

According to police, no shots were fired in the incident.
