University of Utah’s game design program ranked in top 10
SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah’s Entertainment Arts and Engineering program ranked in the top 10 game design programs in North America.
The Princeton Review’s rankings put the U’s program in fifth place for graduate programs and seventh place in undergraduate schools.
The university said it had moved up one place in each ranking since last year.
“Moving up in both undergraduate and graduate rankings in the same year is an impressive achievement that comes from the great work of our remarkable students, staff and faculty,” said U of U’s School of Computing professor and EAE Director Michael Young.
The rankings were determined through a survey of 150 schools with game design programs. The Princeton Review surveyed schools from the U.S., Canada, and other countries abroad.
The Princeton Review looked at schools’ lab facilities, faculty credentials, and career outcomes to determine rankings.
The top school with a game design undergraduate program was the University of Southern California. The top school with a graduate program was the University of Central Florida

The university said its program teaches students “all aspects of video game production.” This includes things from designing a video game to marketing one.
The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees within the game design program, as well as the option of minoring in games. The program also collaborates with the David Eccles School of Business. The school offers a dual degree for students wanting to go into video game-focused businesses.
