There’s good news for those who take insulin to control their diabetes. Insulin is going to be up to 80 percent less expensive, thanks to a new nationwide initiative being led by Utah-based Civica RX. Headquartered in Lehi, Utah, they are announcing plans to manufacture and distribute insulins that will be available at significantly lower prices.
The availability of affordable insulins will benefit people with diabetes who have been forced to choose between life-sustaining medicines and living expenses, particularly people who are uninsured or underinsured who often pay the most for their medications.
Intermountain Healthcare helped develop and launch Civica in 2018 to improve the availability and affordability of generic medications routinely used in U.S. hospitals, with a focus on preventing chronic drug shortages and the price spikes that often accompany them. Civica RX now includes 1,500 hospitals nationwide, and its medications have been used by 27 million patients.
SelectHealth recognizes the increased access to medications provided by Civica Rx as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
