KAYSVILLE, Utah — A Kaysville police officer was hospitalized for observation after he put himself between the public and a wrong-way driver on I-15 in Davis County.
According to police, a driver was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Farmington around 2 a.m. Friday morning. The driver had reportedly driven the wrong way from Salt Lake City to Farmington in the HOV lane, at times reaching speeds as high as 82 miles per hour.
Kaysville police said they responded to the call to prevent the driver from entering Kaysville City limits.
Kaysville Police Lieutenant Paul Thompson said that one of their officers, Delos Santos, performed an intervention maneuver with his vehicle that forced the wrong-way driver to stop.
The freeway was closed in both directions as the crash was investigated.
Police say that the driver’s blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit in Utah.
The suspect received minor injuries and was booked on suspicion of DUI.
