SALT LAKE CITY — The Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park will have improvements made for visitors this summer. National Park Services (NPS) will have work completed in early June, they predict.
According to the National Park News Release, NPS will work on the trail Monday to Thursday weekly. They plan to keep the trail open most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. That said, the trail may experience closure at other times.
Improvements to the trail include improved trail tread, rehabilitated stonework, and either new or rehabilitated handrails. These improvements will help keep hikers safe while using the trail. Furthermore, using rehabilitated materials keep the historic rustic appearance of the trail. The trail was originally built in the 1930s.
Other parts of the park may also be closed for short periods during NPS’s work on the Canyon Overlook Trail. This includes the Pine Creek canyoneering route and lover Pine Creek Drainage, located below the trail.
“Canyoneers traveling this route need to be mindful of their surroundings, watch for signs showing closed areas, and be aware that work may be happening above them,” said National Park Services.
To enter Zion National Park you do not need a reservation, permit, or ticket. However, this is a park fee to enter and ride the park shuttle. The entrance fee helps support projects within the parks to ensure visitors have the best experience possible.
If you are looking to hike Angels Landing you need to apply for a permit online. Furthermore, if you are wanting to visit The Narrows at the park it is wise to check their website during the months of April in May for closures due to snowmelt.
