“Hard core porn American as apple pie… and more popular than Sunday night football,” says a course description at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. The class is being offered for the first time this fall.

Reactions on social media vary from criticizing the class to joking about what the specifics of the class might be like.

The Film 300 class is described as approaching the class to look at a “cultural phenomenon that reinforces sexual inequalities.”

The description for the summer course says the class will watch pornographic films and discuss the sexualization of race, class, and gender in porn films.

The college provided KSL NewsRadio with a statement. It read:

“Westminster College occasionally offers elective courses like this as an opportunity to analyze social issues. As part of this analysis, Westminster College and universities across the county often examine potentially offensive topics like pornography to further understand their pervasiveness and impact. Descriptions of these courses, while alarming to some readers, help students decide if they wish to engage in serious investigation of controversial subjects.”
